SUMMER TEAM TRYOUTS UNDERWAY

The 8U EBA Eagles team traveled to Jackson NJ March 31/April 1 to take part in the 6-team Holbrook "Spring Kickoff" Tournament. The boys went 3 and 0, scoring 25 runs while giving up only 13. The team gained the # 1 seed in pool play and defeated the Central PA Cougars 8-7 in the final game. It was a true team victory; all the boys contributed during the 3 games. The Eagles beat a very strong PA team in back-to-back games to win the Championship. The Eagles played almost flawless defense throughout the tournament and had big hits to drive in runs at critical points in the games.

IT IS HIGH...IT IS FAR...
IT IS JOHN STERLING TALKING ABOUT PBI!

LITTLE LEAGUE COMPOSITE BAT MORATORIUM DETAILS-
INFORMATION ON APPROVED NON-WOOD BATS CURRENT AS OF APRIL 24, 2012
PLUS HS COMPOSITE BAT DETAILS

On December 30. 2010 Little League International announced an immediate moratorium on the use of composite bats. Complete details can be found on the blog page of the PBI website.

Since that time, Little League International has issued a list of approved non-wood bats for 2012. That list has been updated a few times, most recently on April 4, 2012. For a complete list of 2 1/4" barrel bats approved for use at the Little League (Majors) level click here.

Additionally, Little League International has given waivers to SOME composite bats for the LL Majors level (2 1/4" barrels). That list is here (updated April 4, 2012). At the Junior, Senior & Big League levels, the official Little League rule is that composite-barreled baseball bats in these divisions, regardless of barrel size, must meet BBCOR (Batted Ball Co-Efficient of Restitution) standards, and must be so labeled. However, in the Junior League Baseball division, bats that do not have composite materials in the barrel (i.e., all metal, all alloy, all wood), and meet all other applicable standards, can have ANY drop weight. Bats with a barrel of less than 2 5/8 inches also can be used in the Junior League Baseball Division, but must still comply with all other specifications noted. For the purposes of the PBI Baseball League, any 50/70 or 60/90 division between the ages of 11 and 14 will follow the Little League Junior League rules. The high school divisions of the PBI League (both junior varsity and varsity) will BOTH utilize the bat rules set by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). We will keep this list updated going into the spring Little League, rec baseball, and PBI Baseball League seasons.

The National Federation Of State High School Associations has similarly placed restrictions on bats that do not meet their BESR (bat exit speed ratio) requirements. The list of approved BESR-ABI composite bats for high school players is here (updated 3/10/11). For high school play in 2012, all non-wood bats shall meet the Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution (BBCOR) performance standard, and such bats shall be labeled with a silk screen or other permanent certification mark.

Please note that the PBI Baseball League follows Little League International's lead on composite bats at the lower age levels and the NFHS regulations for the high school age levels.

A Welcome Note From Doug Cinnella

Dear Parents and Players,

Thanks for taking the time to check out Professional Baseball Instruction. Baseball has been a life-long passion for me and I look forward to imparting that love of the game on your child as PBI moves into its 19th year of baseball and softball training.

PBI continues to be THE leader in baseball training in New Jersey with new and innovative programs and training methods being introduced to our players. In 2009 we continued to raise the bar with our 17U Elite Eagles showcase team for top high school players and our entry that summer into the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League, one of the premier college summer leagues in the country, opened our players up to more exciting new opportunities! The Eagles Baseball Association travel teams - coached by PBI staffers - have won tournaments this spring and summer at the 8U, 9U, and 10U levels.

In 2010, we joined forces with former Major League pitching coach Rick Peterson and former Major League pitcher Al Leiter on a pitching program that is truly unique. PBI's Major League-quality training standards are unequaled! We were proud to be a sponsor of the 2011 Bergen County Freshman Baseball Tournament as well as the the 2011 Bergen County Varstiy Tournament, too.

Teaching baseball, and teaching the life-lessons associated with the Game Of Baseball is such a wonderful thing. At PBI, we do both with a passion, and a respect for The Game. The PBI staff is trained to teach The Game in such a way that makes it both fun and exciting. Creating great baseball memories that last a lifetime is our goal for all of our students and their families.

Thanks as always for your enthusiastic support. You are a huge part of New York and New Jersey's fastest growing baseball family - the Professional Baseball Instruction Family!

Play Ball!
