Camp Codes & Descriptions:
(AH/B) = Advanced Hitting & Baserunning
***This camp is designed to take a much more in depth look at the art of hitting. We will be utilizing state of the art technology to emphasize vision training and tracking. Video analysis of each players swing will also be done in order for the athletes to see exactly where any holes may exist in their swing. This camp will involve several stations that are designed to promote positive muscle memory and give each player the repetitions every baseball needs to become successful and consistent.
***A player that can run the bases aggressively and effectively is always a threat. In this portion of the camp we will go over the small aspects of base running that turn a player from an average base runner to great base runner. Topics include angels, lead offs, first steps and more.
(AP/C) = Advanced Pitching & Catching
***The goals of the workouts for pitchers are to create winning work habits by learning to command the fastball - learning HOW to throw the 3 basic pitches, learn WHERE to throw the 3 basic pitches and most importantly, WHEN to throw the 3 basic pitches. Command is throwing the fastball where you want, when you want. After command of the fastball, you can then command the change-up and finally the breaking ball; be it a curve ball, slider or cutter. You need to have complete and total control over your body and your pitching mechanics if you are to reach your potential and get to the next level of competition. A portion of the pitchers program will also include skill sessions: Pick-off moves to all bases, fielding the position. Arm-strengthening exercises using dumbbells and tubing for maximum efficiency will also be part of each workout.
***PBI-IL understands that catching is the most demanding position on the field and t o be a successful catcher requires skill, courage, and a complete understanding of the game. Topics include: receiving, throwing, footwork and mechanics, blocking balls, taking charge, decreasing your POP time, back picks, bunts and much more.
(AINF/OF) = Advanced Infield/Outfield
***PBI-IL understands the importance of footwork and body control in the infield and we will hammer this into our athletes. We will spilt this camp into middle infielders (short stop and second base) and corner infielders (first base and third base) and go over and drill the specifics of each position. Topics will include forehands, backhands, slow rollers, double plays, footwork, bag work, and more.
***In the outfield portion of the camp, we will cover the fundamentals and skills necessary to become a good outfielder. We will work on reads, proper steps, to cover as much ground as possible and to increase each players range. We will also discuss and breakdown the priorities and communication required of outfielders as well as the proper positioning on ground balls and fly balls to make a quick, strong and accurate throw as possible to any base or cutoff man necessary.
